Your Skin Needs this when Camping

When I was a kid, my family would camp in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. All four of us - mom, dad, sister, and I - would pack into my dad’s old canvas tent. We would arrange our sleeping bags like a game of Tetris and sleep under the stars on summer nights.

I had so much fun during those summers in the wilderness. So much fun in fact that I usually forgot to shower, until one of my parents would tell me I had to before I could join the family for dinner. That’s when I would take my towel and sandals, clad in my bathing suit, and walk to the campground coin showers with a bottle of my mother’s Herbal Essences shampoo. At that age, soap was soap, and I used it everywhere; hair, face, body. I’ll always think of those days when I smell herbal essence shampoo; the one in the dark green bottle, you know what I’m talking about.

Fast forward two decades later, and I’m still adventuring in the woods like a child. But this time, my skin needs are different. I think about things like harsh UVA/UVB rays, breakouts from sweat and dirt, inflammation, oils…everything!

In my 20’s I would throw face cleansing wipes into my duffle for camping trips, along with a hotel bar of “facial soap” in a plastic bag. After a long day of setting up camp, hiking, and cooking by the fire, I would walk to the campground’s outdoor water faucet and “wash my face”. I would be left with a dirty wipe, a wet bar of soap, and a wet and sticky plastic bag. Not pleasant, and very inconvenient.

So, I created my own face wash. Something that would make my time adventuring in the wilderness easier and better. No plastic, no clunky, heavy containers, no harsh chemicals, no soapy aftermath! Just easy to manage lightweight powder that is both effective and clean.
